Prairie dogs are awesome! And in peril....Join the HSUS's Prairie Dog Conflict Resolution Team to learn about creating collaborations for wildlife. We seek to protect the prairie dog ecosystem through partnerships with agencies, wildlife managers, landowners and stakeholders. We discover and implement innovative coexistence techniques for living with wildlife in the prairie dog ecosystem and provide on the ground and behind the desk trainings for our partners on non-lethal prairie dog management. 

We're looking for a volunteer leader (click to view position description) to help develop and lead the Prairie Dog Conflict Resolution Team's volunteer program, including recruitment and scheduling, helping deliver volunteer orientations and trainings, and performing outreach and on-site management, as needed.  Ideally, the candidate should reside in Boulder or Denver even though the position is primarily remote. This is a great opportunity to use your volunteer management experience to help wildlife!

 Becoming a volunteer

Requirements for our volunteers:

  • Must be at least 18 years old
  • Volunteer management experience or knowledge required
  • Able to meet the requirements specified in the Essential capabilities document with or without reasonable accommodation
  • Able to retain information and teach others about the volunteer opportunities we offer
  • Able to work closely with staff, and to think strategically in order to meet the program's needs
  • Tetanus and rabies vaccinations recommended to participate in field work

Commitment policy:

Volunteer commits to the role for six months; ongoing participation is preferred. Weekly time commitment varies based on field projects. Average expected time commitment is 5 hours per week. Field work is an additional 2-8 hours per week.

  • Before becoming an official volunteer, you must pass the background check, sign a volunteer agreement, and sign a waiver/release of liability.
