It was definitely an "eye-opening" experience. The person I was matched-up with needed SO much help! He wants a job but has no transportation, has no phone, has no address, no education (8th grade), no skills.. Apparently has a criminal record which is another stumbling block for him. I learned an appreciation for what homeless people go through every single day. The instructions were to stay with your "client" for as long as he/she needed your help. My "client" needed everything.
I so appreciate all the enormous effort that goes into staging this monumental event. THANK YOU for everything you do; it's clear that the services are so desperately needed, and appreciated by most who receive them. I wish Denver could host this array of help to our homeless population more frequently, AND understand what that would entail. This year I noticed flu shots were not offered. I'm sure it couldn't be scheduled, but I have to say that service is a really valuable, tangible thing, especially considering the situation homeless are up against. I hope you'll be able to bring that back next year.
