December Clean Lady Bird Lake

Greetings Volunteers, we’d like to thank you for volunteering for Keep Austin Beautiful's Clean Lady Bird Lake event. You'll be joining 100+ other volunteers to give some extra care to the lake and trails. You have signed up to participate in the Capital Cruises Waterway cleanup. A watercraft will be provided to you by Capital Cruises so there is no fee associated. **Please note that if you do not arrive by 9:15 a.m. on the day of the cleanup, you will automatically forfeit your spot on the lake and it will be offered to the next volunteer.**

Your Lake Leader for this site will be The Capital Cruises Staff and they will have your cleanup supplies, helpful safety guidelines, and further instructions for you.

Event Details

·    Starting Location: Volunteers will meet in front of Capital Cruises (208 Barton Springs Rd., Austin, TX 78704)

·    Parking: Parking is available underneath the S. 1st bridge or the Vic Mathias Shores parking lot

·    Things to Bring: A FULL bottle of water, a hat, and a snack

If you are no longer able to attend, please cancel your shift at your earliest convenience to re-open those spots for registration.

“Know Before You Go”

Before you head out, please keep the following in mind:

• Be aware that toxic algae blooms can occur in Lady Bird Lake. Whenever you're around natural bodies of water, remain vigilant.
• Recognize that zebra mussels are invasive and widespread in Texas waterways. Let us know if you see any zebra mussels during your volunteer activity. 
• Be able to identify poison ivy, oak, and sumac; identifying these plants is essential for a safe cleanup.
• Hydrate and take precautions to prevent heat-related illnesses. Consult this guide for tips on recognizing and addressing heat-related issues.
• Per Texas State Law, life vests are required for everyone and must be worn at all times for anyone 13 years and younger. For more information, consult TPWD for more information.
