December Clean Lady Bird Lake

Greetings Volunteers, we’d like to thank you for volunteering for Keep Austin Beautiful's Clean Lady Bird Lake event. You'll be joining 100+ other volunteers to give some extra care to the lake and trails. You have signed up to participate in the Austin High Boat Ramp Waterway cleanup. All ages are welcome at this site with adult supervision. Just as a reminder, this is a bring your own boat cleanup and kayaks will not be provided. 

Event Details

·    Starting Location: In the grassy area next to the boat ramp. The address is 100 Stephen F Austin Dr, Austin, TX 78703

·    Parking: There is parking along the street by the boat ramp and a small parking lot on site. 

·    Things to Bring: A FULL bottle of water, a hat, and a snack

Your Lake Leaders for this site will be Susie and Jesse Shockley and they will have your cleanup supplies, helpful safety guidelines, and further instructions for you.

“Know Before You Go”

Before you head out, please keep the following in mind:

• Be aware that toxic algae blooms can occur in Lady Bird Lake. Whenever you're around natural bodies of water, remain vigilant.
• Recognize that zebra mussels are invasive and widespread in Texas waterways. Let us know if you see any zebra mussels during your volunteer activity. 
• Be able to identify poison ivy, oak, and sumac; identifying these plants is essential for a safe cleanup.
• Hydrate and take precautions to prevent heat-related illnesses. Consult this guide for tips on recognizing and addressing heat-related issues.
• Per Texas State Law, life vests are required for everyone and must be worn at all times for anyone 13 years and younger. For more information, consult TPWD for more information. 

If you are no longer able to attend, please cancel your shift at your earliest convenience to re-open those spots for registration.
