2025 Day of Caring with Mile High United Way

Project:  At Kalmia community, we have seven garden beds that need restoration. The project involves removing weeds, cleaning and preparing the soil, pruning shrubs, weeding along the back fence, hauling large trash items into BHP trucks, and getting the beds ready for planting perennial plants at the end of the fall season. Volunteers will support with weeding, turning and conditioning the soil, and helping to beautify the space for future planting. 

Impact:  This project will create a meaningful and lasting impact by preparing seven community garden beds for future use. Volunteers will help us restore the space by removing weeds, cleaning, and preparing the soil so that perennial flowers can be planted in the fall. In the spring, the garden will be ready for children and families to participate in planting and harvesting food. This promotes food security, environmental education, and a sense of community ownership. With the help of volunteers, we can create a beautiful and functional space that supports learning, connection, and well-being for our residents.

Requirements:  A lot of physical work, please be prepared to be outdoors in possible extreme weather — bring a hat and dress to protect yourself (sunblock, layers, gloves if needed). We will provide light breakfast and refreshments. 

Parking:  Parking will be available on the street only on Nottingham Court or Artur Court — please plan extra time and consider carpooling
