Shift Details
| Shift Name | Marshal Hwy 99 @Madison |
|---|---|
| Description | Help keep our riders safe as a traffic marshal for points where the courses cross fast-moving traffic! The role of our traffic marshals in the safety plan is to help keep an eye on cross traffic and make sure no riders with their heads down in race mode or otherwise oblivious jump out in front of a speeding vehicle. Marshals are not authorized in any way to stop cross-traffic OR to advise riders to break the law by blowing through stop signs. Each rider is expected to stop at these highway crossings to make sure they are safe before proceeding. However, it is also not the duty of a marshal to jump in front of a rider or physically stop them if they are not following directions. The role requires a solid situational awareness and maturity and some way to travel to the crossing point. Marshals can pick up their supplies from 11 W 8th Avenue any time on Thursday, June 1 from 10 am to 7 pm, Friday, June 2 from 10 am to 5 pm, or before their shift on Saturday June 3. Supplies include bright yellow reflective safety vests, whistles, and stop/yield handheld signs. Bringing a lawn chair and/or some type of shade is a good idea! Point 99 @ Madison is mile 59.5 of the 100 mile course and 161.5 of the 200 mile course, located at coordinates 38.099553, -96.139312, the intersection of Hwy 99 & 340th St south of Madison City Lake. |
