Being on the planning committee for the White Oak Legacy Foundation's Blue Jeans Go Green Program was truly an impactful experience.

To give back to my community, I have started going back to my old high school and volunteering to assist teachers with their errands, mentoring high school students for college and career readiness, and being a resource for students to get help with filling out resumes and applying for scholarships and college.
When I got there, we immediately got to work. We began by creating a compost pile full of dead grass and unwanted organic matter. Then we pulled up plastic covering the grass, and distributed mulch across the desired area. Finally, we built potting containers and filled them with organic soil. I enjoyed this experience a lot, and I would love to do it again!
On October 23, 2021, I volunteered with the Earth and Environmental Science Club at Aggies Shred and Recycle Day in which we directed the participants to the designated recycling areas they desired depending on what material was being turned in. I really enjoyed the activity and I feel like it gave me the opportunity to fellowship with other environmental advocates.
On October 21, two other 1890s scholars and I went to the state fair and worked the College of Agriculture and Environmental Sciences booth. We promoted the college and got fair goers more familiar with agriculture and natural resources.
Over the summer, I participated in a self-initiated community service event in which I and other Thurgood Marshall fellows put together lunches for the homeless community in Washington, D.C. and spent the entire day passing out food and hygiene products.
