My all-star was Robin, who was so sweet and chill to hang with. I think she was very tired/over-stimulated today, so we spent awhile in the sensory control/quiet area. I really enjoyed getting to do the chicken dance with her and seeing how happy she was to dance and get moving.
I was paired up with Ruddger, who was a joy to be with. He had so much energy, and had this cute call-and-response thing with some of the staff. I really enjoyed playing basketball with him for the first hour too. I liked volunteering at this Littleton location as it had a bit more energy than the smaller Lakewood location. I got to talk with Ruddger and Steven's family at the end, which was also really sweet and reminded me of how selfless we are called to be as humans, future healthcare workers, and especially Christians. I wish I would've been able to get Ruddger out of the way of the lyrics on the screen so people could've sung along with him.
I was paired with Julia and Lee, who were a joy to talk to, laugh with, and just have fun. It was nice that they enjoyed coloring, which facilitated small talk quite nicely. It also calmed me, as I haven't had much experience with special needs population. The volunteers running karaoke were also super cool and kept the atmosphere light and encouraging. I really appreciated the time for prayer, worship, and gospel teaching at the end too. Such a nice way to represent Romans 1:16 and show what Christianity and church is truly about. You guys are a blessing to the community.
