This service event was different from what I expected, but it was very interesting. I appreciated the opportunity to learn something new and gain a deeper understanding of why we were doing this work and how it impacts the community.
Volunteering at Dunbar was a great experience despite its challenges. I created a vibrant lesson plan to engage and educate the students. The e-board members who came to assist were fantastic, as they connected with the kids and executed the lesson plans beautifully. Seeing the kids engaged and learning was great, and their enthusiasm made all the challenges worthwhile. Overall, it was a fun experience.
Volunteering as a companion at Maimonides Medical Center was a truly rewarding experience. I connected with patients, offering comfort and support, and saw how empathy significantly affects healing. Working alongside skilled mentors in the medical field deepened my passion for medicine, showing me that it’s about both care and human connection. This experience reinforced my desire to pursue a career in healthcare.
