Helping to feed the citizens of Greensboro was a very humbling and eye-opening experience that I was happy to assist with. It saddens me to learn that people have to choose between paying their rent/mortgage, food, or medical expenses in order to survive daily. Covid has certainly contributed to the increased in the number of individuals residing in a food dessert.
I believe that everyone is one paycheck, one decision, one mishap away from being unable to provide for themselves and their families even coming from a stable home with money and resources. I will continue to serve the less fortunate in my community as I believe it is our civic duty to show humility and lend a helping hand to people in need because we never know when we may need a hand.
I provided 20 items which included cake mix, frosting, pasta, rice, vegetables, jello, beef stew, cookie mix, soup, cream of wheat, chef boyadee pastas, canned salmon, and baked beans. Hopefully these items will help someone to have a more enjoyable holiday season.
Assisted with providing directions to various locations such as bathrooms, dining, vendor tables, and classrooms for the summit. Served as a room monitor during the seminar. I gained knowledge on the importance of financial literacy while assisting with this event.
During this annual event, I helped with the set up and breakdown of the various pavilions at the festival. I assisted vendors and participants with handing out health related informational resources throughout the festival. Overall, I enjoyed working with the festival because it helps to address the health disparities within our communities.
The Baltimore County African American Cultural Festival, Inc. is a
501(c)(3) non-profit organization established in 1995 by Delegate Adrienne Jones to promote a greater awareness of Baltimore County’s African American heritage. Another goal is to promote Health & Wellness for the community. During this annual event, I helped with the set up and breakdown of the health and wellness pavilion. I assisted vendors and participants with handing out health related informational resources throughout the festival. I ran errands for Vendors, to help with lunch, snacks and beverages. I also solicited people to come to the health and wellness pavilion. I assisted with providing directions to specific areas of the event. Overall, I enjoyed working with the festival because of the footprint it has in our community.
