End of Semester Spring 2026 (mandatory meeting)

Today’s session was really informative and helped me better understand what I need to stay on track academically. We went over important requirements like being enrolled full-time (12+ credits) and how that affects financial aid, which made me realize how important it is to plan my schedule carefully. We also talked about the fall registration deadline (June 1st) and the importance of meeting with an advisor instead of trying to choose classes on my own.

Another key topic was financial aid, especially FAFSA and MHEC forms. I learned that I need to submit the correct form and check my status regularly through my school account. This reminded me to stay on top of deadlines and not wait until the last minute.

Adulting 101 (Personal Wellness - Mini Session)

Today I attended the Adulting 101 mini session on personal wellness, and it was actually really helpful and relatable. During the session, we talked about professional communication, especially how to properly email professors and communicate in real-life situations like work or school. One thing that stood out to me was how important it is to write clear and respectful emails. We looked at examples of emails, and I learned that having a good subject line, being polite, and asking one clear question can make a big difference in getting a faster and better response. I also realized that emails that sound demanding or unorganized can come off the wrong way, even if that’s not your intention.
We also went over a scenario about balancing work and school, like what to say if your job asks you to cover a shift but you have an important exam coming up. That part really made me think because it relates to real situations I might face. It showed me how to communicate honestly while still being responsible and professional, without sounding like I don’t want to be a team player. Another thing we talked about was leaving voicemails and how to keep them short, clear, and professional by including your name, reason for calling, and availability. I didn’t realize how important structure was for things like that. Overall, this session helped me understand how to communicate better in both school and work settings. It made me more aware of how I come across in emails and conversations, and I feel more confident in handling situations that require professionalism and responsibility.

PGCC Pathways Presentation (Academic Wellness Mini Session) In-Person

Today I attended the PGCC Pathways Presentation (Academic Wellness Mini Session), “Find Your Fit: Degrees and Certificates Explained.” The session helped me better understand the different degree options and what each path can lead to. It made me think more about my own next steps since I’m close to finishing my program.

Overall, the presentation was clear, helpful, and gave me a better idea of what direction I want to take in the future.

PGCC Pathways Presentation (Academic Wellness Mini Session) In-Person

Today during the PGCC Pathways Presentation (Academic Wellness Mini Session), we talked about the different types of degrees and how they transfer. One thing that really stood out to me was learning the difference between an AAS degree and other associate degrees. I learned that my degree, which is an AAS (Associate of Applied Science), is mainly designed to prepare students to go straight into the workforce rather than transfer to a four-year university. We also discussed how degrees like AA (Associate of Arts) and AS (Associate of Science) are specifically meant to transfer more easily to four-year colleges. That helped me understand why transferring with an AAS can sometimes be a little more complicated, and why planning ahead is important if I want to continue my education.
Overall, this session helped me better understand my academic path and what I may need to do if I decide to transfer in the future. It made me think more seriously about my goals and the steps I need to take next.

    Special Scholarships Program

Today I attended the Vision Yourself event for Strive Academy. We had the opportunity to meet our mentors, create vision boards, and participate in different discussions about leadership. I learned that leadership isn’t just about having a title — a lot of people can be leaders in their own way.

I met my mentor, Loren Taylor, and we talked about me, school, and some of my future goals. This session really benefited me because it helped me realize that I’m a leader in everything I do — whether it’s in school or in my social life.

    Special Scholarships Program

I attended a STRIVR workshop with Mr. Brian Heat, and honestly, it was wonderful. I didn’t just sit and listen — I actually participated, engaged in the conversations, and really thought about how everything applied to me. It felt like one of those sessions that makes you pause and reflect on what you’re doing and why you’re doing it.

One thing that really stood out to me was when we talked about “bedrottening” and how easy it is to waste time. If I’m being real, time is my worst enemy sometimes. I know I’m capable — I have a 3.18 GPA — and hearing about transfer scholarships requiring a 3.5 or higher made me think. That’s not out of reach for me, but it does require discipline and better time management. It also made me reflect on procrastination. When Mr. Heat said that sometimes we wait until the last minute because our “why” isn’t big enough, that hit me. I had to ask myself if my goals feel urgent enough every single day.

We also talked about building relationships and networking with classmates. Staying engaged in the classroom matters. Participation isn’t just about grades — it’s about connection and growth. Managing energy was another big point. You can’t outwork a bad diet, and your personal life will bleed into your academic life whether you like it or not. That reminded me that balance is important. I need a healthy routine that includes self-belief, effort, and discipline.

    STRIVE Presents: Spring Kickoff [Virtual]

On January 29, I attended the STRIVE Kick-Off event. As an already active member of STRIVE, it felt good to be present and see what’s planned for this semester. The event introduced the STRIVE 360 Workshop and Power Circle series for February 2026, with a focus on “Next Level Academic Strategies” and personal growth. They shared details about upcoming sessions like Embracing the New Version of Yourself and How’s Your Relationship with Money?, along with the dates, times, and locations.

Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Tribute Event (Virtual)

I attended the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Tribute Event at Prince George’s Community College, and it was a meaningful experience. One poem that was read, “Land of the Free,” really stood out to me because it made me think about the true meaning of freedom and how it has not always been equal for everyone.

I also liked how the speaker explained the historical views of Malcolm X and Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Even though they had different approaches—Dr. King focusing on nonviolence and Malcolm X emphasizing empowerment—they both fought for justice and equality. Overall, the event was powerful and reminded me of the importance of continuing their legacy today.

PGCC Men's Basketball vs Garrett College

Today, I attended the men’s basketball game, and the beginning was honestly a little shocking. The team started off behind, and I was surprised because the men’s team usually loses by a lot in their games. However, this time they played much better than expected. The game was intense, but the team stayed focused and their defense improved as the game went on. They made a strong comeback and ended up winning 81–67. Watching the team push through and perform so well showed how important determination, teamwork, and strong defense are, even when expectations are low.

PGCC Women's Basketball vs Garrett College

Today I attended the women’s basketball game, and the start was a little scary because we were losing at first. The game felt tense, but the team stayed focused and their defense really picked up. They came back strong and ended up winning the game 57–55. Watching the team push through and secure the win showed how important strong defense and perseverance are, even when the game starts off rough.
