Today we walked with the kids to the Franklin Gateway park, and they did an easter egg hunt. It was so funny to see them compete for the eggs. Afterwards, they did various activities outside. I watched them at the park and played with them just a little. Then we walked back, and I waited for all the kids to leave today.
Today I helped the kids with their homework. I just helped lead them in the right direction, without answering away. If they finished early, we gave them an academic activity to do. It was nice to do homework with them today, it refreshed my memory.
Today, we did breathing exercises with the kids. We talked about how their days went and what we could do to make our days better. We practiced different ways to calm down when we have a little too much energy. Then, everyone played a series of activities to help resale the built-up energy.
Today we talked to the kids about what the word gratitude meant, and ways to show it. We had them do a relay race to spell out the word thank you. After that, we took pictures and videos of them and then discussed what a donor is. Then the kids gave examples of what donors are.
On Thursday we made healthy treats. The kids made fruit wraps, Agua Frescca, and cucumber salad. We disscused how to do task, while still keeping utensils clean, and safety of the kitchen. It was super interseting to see how many of them enjoy cooking.
On Wednesday I went with the kids to various apartments and handed out flyers for their event. We disscused what phrases to say to someone you are handing a flyer to. It was a great way of learning social skills.
The children and other volunteers were very welcoming. All the children have so many different personalities. I helped the kids create letters based on an event they would be having. I helped them create ideas, use proper grammar, and make sure all the qualities of the letter were met. I was never left with no work, I continuously had something to do. Those 2 hours went by very fast. I think the work the children do is very engaging and informational.
