After the 2013 Front Range flood, the Saint Vrain River shifted course, leaving behind a now-dry corridor littered with hundreds of large, dead, and downed cottonwood trees. This debris has created a hazardous, overgrown landscape that fuels wildfire risk and supports the spread of invasive species.

At this event, volunteers will help construct wildlife habitat piles—carefully built stacks of branches and woody debris that provide shelter for birds, small mammals, reptiles, and other native wildlife. These piles put cleared material from our sawyer crews to good use and play a vital role in restoring balance to the river corridor ecosystem.

This volunteer day is part of a broader effort to improve safety, accessibility, and ecological health across the area. No experience is necessary—just a willingness to work outside and make a real difference for local wildlife. We’ll provide all the training, tools, and guidance you need!
