Stephenson Nature Preserve: Trail Repair & Longview Park Cleanup

Amazing turnout for litter pickup when everyone signed up to do trail work! Alas for the rain. Rene Barrera attended and showed us where to pick up litter in the shaded fire break his crew had been working on, including a path of shingles that we tackled. We also removed the nandina berries that we found to stop the spread. Trail work to be attempted later, when the weather cooperates.

Estimated haul: 25 bags of litter + ~800 pounds of shingles -- there were a lot of shingles, and there would have been more but we opted to let the snake stay where he was.

Found: one spade, one shovel, one hatchet, amazing neighbors.

Encountered: one live snake (consensus was rat snake), one dead snake, one mama toad and three babies.
