Lunch & Learn: Understanding & Addressing Homelessness

Wednesday, September 4th, 2019 from 11:15am to 1:00pm (MT)

Sponsored by Cheryl Johnson - thank you!

While our community continues to increase efforts to better identify and serve the homeless, the number of people experiencing homelessness grew 52% from 2015 – 2018 (RMPBS). The issue remains in the headlines: Initiative 300 was defeated in the May Municipal elections in Denver; the Centennial City Council voted in July to set a ban on urban camping; the Denver Day Works program provides low-barrier employment for people experiencing homelessness. Join us to learn more about the current state of homelessness and the important work taking place to help individuals and families take steps toward stability.

Our panel of partner experts include:

Rebecca Mayer, Deputy Director, Metro Denver Homeless Initiative (MDHI): A Mile High United Way Collective Impact funded partner, MDHI leads collaborative efforts to end homelessness in Metro Denver.

Stephanie Miller, Chief Executive Officer, The Delores Project: A Mile High United Way Emergency and Basic Needs funded partner, The Delores Project partners with individuals experiencing barriers to housing by providing safe, reliable shelter and housing coupled with onsite services as they move towards stability.

Scott Kerr, Director of Business Development, Bayaud Enterprises: A Mile High United Way Strategic Priorities funded partner, Bayaud Enterprises creates hope, opportunity and choice, with work as the means through which people with disabilities and other barriers to employment can more fully participate in the mainstream of life.
