About
Join the OU Club of Austin for the Big Event at Walnut Creek Metropolitan Park at 9:30 a.m. this Saturday, April 1st!
Our project will be one step in the process of making this part of the park more interesting and more nearly natural. Our main goal will be to spread mulch over bare areas as a way to protect the soil and improve footing. We will provide tools and work gloves, but if you have and can bring any of these items, please do:
- A wheelbarrow or similar garden cart.
- A garden rake.
- A shovel.
We will also have kid-friendly activities available, so bring them along!
Working with mulch, you will probably be more comfortable wearing long pants. Mulch can be dusty, so you would be smart to bring a face mask. I didn’t wear a mask at our last mulching project, and I wish I had.
Be sure to wear closed-toe, sturdy shoes. Other than that, dress for the weather. Bring water to drink—and stay hydrated!
After the project is done, head over to Oskar Blues for the post-cleanup party at noon.

Parking Details
Park in the lot on the south side of the park road. If you're entering from North Lamar, it will be the only parking lot on the left. If you enter from Parmer Lane via Willow Wild, it will be the only parking lot on the right. Look for the big mulch pile! If the parking lot is full, there are more spaces directly across the park road.
