About

Explore while you help clean up and manage parts of the Slaughter Creek Tributary in Mary Moore Searight Park!

Join us as we reduce the trash and litter in this urban-wild space. Removing litter prevents it from being picked up by stormwater runoff during the next rain event where it will end up in Slaughter Creek and beyond. We will also do some work to maintain the Riparian Zone (buffer between Creek and land)  including minimal invasive removal and reducing erosion.

We will also have an expert join us to talk about the importance of the riparian zone and how to manage it. Others will help identify birds while you learn about creek conservation to diminish stress on aquatic wildlife. This work is in support of the  South Austin Creek Alliance mission to protect and preserve our urban waterways and their surrounding ecosystems.

As always, keep an eye on the weather and dress appropriately. Closed-toe shoes are your best bet- it is a bit muddy and there are lots of sticks. Long pants and long-sleeved shirts may be preferred and you might also consider a hat. There can be poison Ivy. Be sure to BRING A WATER BOTTLE and apply sun screen if needed. But the stream area is pretty shaded.

We will be meeting in front of the Bathrooms on the edge of the parking lot at Mary Moore Searight Park meeting spot  at 9am.

We have limited gloves and  "grabbers" so bring some if you have them. You will be joining thousands of other well-intentioned volunteers to help clean up Austin's treasured green spaces! Volunteers get the satisfaction of giving back and of course, an AWESOME It's My Park Day t-shirt designed by local artists!

Project registration will be very limited so please only register if you are certain you can participate. If something changes between your registration and the event, please let us know so we can open the spot back up.

Thank you so much for joining us on It's My Park Day!
