About

Join Keep Austin Beautiful at the Montopolis Practice Fields to learn more about the ecological restoration of riparian areas and practice invasive management techniques on Friday, June 7th! We will focus on tree girdling, weed wrenching, and spreading native grass seed as well as discussing the finer points of active land management work.

We will provide restoration supplies, tools, rubber boots/waders, and seeds as necessary on site as well as sunscreen and bug spray. We will meet near the parking lot on Vasquez St before hiking back to the forested area where we will be conducting our work - look for the Keep Austin Beautiful signage and event table!

Please remember to wear close-toed shoes and durable clothing as the terrain may be rough in some areas. Conditions may be wet as we will be working along and within the creek when possible; please dress appropriately! Long pants and a hat are also recommended. Be sure to bring a full water bottle and stay hydrated. This event will involve a fair bit of walking through wooded areas with some dense undergrowth. Areas closer to the creek side may present an additional mobility challenge as well.

When arriving at the fields, please remember to hide any valuables and lock your car before checking in. Parking is available in the lot on Vasquez St. Carpooling is highly encouraged!
