About
Come join SACA while we celebrate our very own Salamander Day with help from herp experts at Texas State University, our friends at Texas Cave Management Association, and our expert hydrogeologist, Dr. Nico Hauwert!
We'll meet up under the MOPAC bridge off Latta Drive to begin our adventure! Local experts will lead an educational talk about salamanders, the Edwards Aquifer, and why protecting these underground waterways is so important. Following the talk, Dr. Hauwert will take us on a guided tour of Whirlpool Cave, where you may even spot a Western Slimy Salamander (Plethodon albabula) while you explore!
Please note:
- This is an event for all ages, but there are no public restrooms on site.
- Anyone is free to attend the learning session, which does not require registration.
We do ask for cancellations to be submitted at least 24 hours in advance as this is a popular event.
