About
Art Pals pair students in Grades 3-5 (Little Pals) with teen mentors (Big Pals) to explore the world of art together. Participants learn about famous art masters, discover their unique styles and techniques, and then experiment with the same mediums through hands-on projects. By combining art history, creativity, and peer collaboration, Art Pals builds artistic skills, encourages self-expression, and fosters meaningful connections between younger students and teens in a fun, supportive environment.
The Autumn 2026 Reynolds Art Pals begins with training on Monday, August 31, from 4:30 - 5:30 p.m. Volunteers will meet weekly with their Little Pal from Monday, September 14 through Monday, October 19, 4:30 - 6 p.m. at Reynolds Library.
Big Pal Volunteer Responsibilities:
- Big Pals will engage with Little Pals while presenting a positive image of the library in attitude, communications, and appearance.
- Big Pals will provide Little Pals with opportunities to learn about famous artists and practice the artists' medium in a friendly, supportive, informal environment.
- Big Pals will maintain the confidentiality of Little Pals and their caregivers.
- Big Pals are expected to attend every scheduled session or to provide advance notice if unable to attend. Advanced notice is crucial.
- Big Pals will be responsible for arriving on time to prepare for the day’s activities and for leaving both the meeting room and storage room neat and tidy.
- Big Pals will attend a one-hour mandatory training and orientation session on Monday, August 31, from 4:30 - 5:30 p.m.
- Volunteers will meet weekly with their Little Pal on Mondays, September 14 - October 19, 4:45 - 5:45 p.m. Volunteers will be onsite from 4:30 - 6 p.m. for session planning and debriefing.

Volunteers should have patience with kids. Volunteers must be in high school (grades 9-12 only). Homeschoolers are welcome!
