2023 Chicago Half Marathon + 5K

On site, there were a number of hurdles. First was parking (and road construction). The lot we were told to park in was hard to get to and full. The volunteer tent coordinator had no electricity and thus couldn’t check people in. From there, there was virtually no instruction or leadership. I went to the finish area and started passing out medals with others. We ran out of unboxed medals during the crush of finishers and had to open boxes (without tools) and improvise on the fly to keep people moving and getting their bling. I actually think we did a great job at that under less than ideal circumstances. Also, there were numerous medals with defects. I used one as a box cutter to get at the other medals. All that said, I had fun. Sing a part of the racers’ day.
