Great place to learn about all the hard work that goes into this robust event. Fun to meet others who love the outdoors, ultra events and Leadville.
I ran the Silver Rush 50 this year and wanted to come back and volunteer at the 100 mostly do to the volunteers ... the volunteers at the 50 were so wonderful and so happy and engaged and excited and they most definitely enhanced my running experience that day!At the 100 expo I went out to the twin lakes aid station and volunteered there until 10pm and then a friend and I went to another down line aid station the help out there... then after that I went to support the finishers at the finish line...that was truly memorable. When that was done with the permission of Rich Naprstek I assisted handing out the winners jackets and belt buckles. I want to personally thank Rich and Sarah for the great job they did along with his staff in setting up the volunteer crews Great Job Rich and Sarah!! I was up a very long time and it was worth it! I would certainly help out again !! and maybe even run The LT 100 someday myself. Thank you, Stoddard Finnie
More feedback--we also "prerolled" a bunch of the posters and I would have done even more, because that slowed us down a little when things were busy.
The main probably we had was the concept of exchanging a bib tab for your tshirt--many, many racers did not have their bib with them (and said that they had NOT been informed that they needed their bib). Most we were just able to send back to the car for the bib. In the end we were overwhelmed with numbers and changed (at the direction of Sara from Lifetime) to just give out tshirts based on runner's wristband (which of course was easier). So next year we need to do a better job of informing runners of the need to have the bib, or just abandon that system altogether and give out tshirts based on wristband.
FYI I am applying my volunteer hours towards another (out of state) race, so you may receive email contact from them. I don't think I got to chat with you (Rich) personally but did work together with Sara from Lifetime.
I really enjoyed volunteering (even more than I thought I would). The other volunteers were great and there was awesome energy interacting with all of the excited and nervous racers.
