On Friday, we did a coloring competition. The majority of Friday, I colored with the children. There was a movie playing on the television. I passed out the coloring pages and coloring utensils. Most of the children went home early because they are on spring break, so the little number of children who were there we are colored. For a little while, they played in the gym. Once most of the children were gone, I sanitized the tables and chairs, swept the floor, and put the arts and crafts materials away.
I was able to help an 3rd grader with his math homework. While coloring with the younger children, I was able to have conversations with them about their school and home lives. I helped preparing the kids for snack time and passing out the snack. We played basketball, football, and soccer with the boys and girls. I monitored the children while they played online games. When most of the children had been picked up by their parents, I sanitized the tables and chairs and put the arts and crafts materials away. I had a great time with the kids and the teachers. I wish there was an option to be the paperwork online because it took around 15-20 minutes to complete.
The kids were very interesting to talk to. It was refreshing to do something for someone else. They were just running around and having fun.
I enjoyed interacting with the little kids as well as getting to know them on a more personal level. I would love to come back to volunteer in the future!
Very Fun!
It was great to get back out there and volunteer with Salvation Army because I missed working at my daycare and I got to meet so many great people. The conversations about school and teaching me the rules was very professional and nice. I would defiantly volunteer again at this location.
