This shift was very self-explanatory to someone like myself. I have hiked to Hope Pass several times, know the trail well, and how to find the trailhead. Without that experience, I would have never known where to go and what to do because no one reached out to me in advance. I have been a committeeman (volunteer) at the Houston Livestock Show & Rodeo and it takes thousands of volunteers to run that show. Not as large as HLSR, the Leadville Race Series should select team captains, for the various volunteer needs for 2025 within a couple of months from the conclusion of the 2024 season. If there were Captains selected in advance, they never contacted me.. ever.
would have a few more glasses to offer half a 'coke' rather than a full can
shift start time changed the night before, so we made an extraordinary effort to change our plans to be on time only to arrive and wait around for an hour for supervisor to show up, shift was very long and should be split in two, and the runner were pissed after running 50 mi only to find we were out of almost everything they wanted
I worked drop bags all day, and then was recruited by Sandy M to assist with cutting off runners. She is an absolute ray of light and I was honored to work with her and the team.
I stayed an extra 2 hours to help the guys with the changeover to the next twin lakes volunteer group.
