MLK Day of Service & Unity Walk

I enjoyed the Unity Walk and the chance to see the Ebenezer Baptist Church, it left a feeling that, although a lot of progress has been made, there is still work that needs to be done. It's a reminder that social justice is not a race, but it's a marathon, and it can happen; it is possible.

The MLK Day of service was a great way to celebrate the life of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. The turn out from a plethora of student organizations was great. In had a great time in my service group building furniture to support the Atlanta Furniture Bank in their time of need.

This event was such a good way to spend MLK day! I met so many people during icebreakers, and in the middle of the unity walk I was able to visit the Freedom Hall at The King Center to learn about Martin Luther King Jr., and Coretta Scott King. After the walk we made our way back to the student center to have some lunch and start working on our service projects. My group and I worked on making tie blankets for senior citizens to help foster a sense of community in our local nursing homes.
