Shift Details

Shift NameMarshal #8 (Both courses)
Description

These course marshals must be 18+.

AT LEAST ONE PERSON WITH A VEHICLE NEEDED TO GET TO MARSHAL POINT!

Traffic Marshals are a pivotal element of the race, helping keep riders safe at intersections with busy roads. Your duty is NOT to stop traffic, but to keep an eye on approaching traffic and warn riders if they need to slow down or stop. Your presence in a safety vest will help warn oncoming drivers to pay attention. You will also be given a pair of "Race In Progress" signs to place 100 yards up the road to either side to warn drivers. Report to the Info Booth at the Expo on Friday from 10-7 or, if time allows, Saturday at the Finisher Item area to pick up your signs, vests, t-shirts, whistles (warning riders to slow down) and cowbells (cheering riders on!). Items can be returned to the Finisher Item area after your shift. Marshal Shift #8 is at the where riders traveling Sugar Creek Rd turn left onto Hwy 72. This is a VERY dangerous location because traffic coming from the right is traveling down a curving hill, often coming very fast and with low visibility. It would be best to place one marshal up the hill a little way to give advanced warning of approaching cars. The first riders are expected at around 10:50am and the last around 6:30pm. First shift, please have yourself and signs in place by 10:35 at the latest and wait for second shift to show up and pass off marshal equipment. Second shift, there will be a Sweep Jeep following the final rider at a respectful distance. Please wait until the sweep comes through before packing up and remember to pick up the road signs. Thank you! Marshal Point Coordinates: 36.404780, -94.156672
