I attended an event called Breaking the Silence hosted by Voices Against Violence. I volunteered with Texas Public Health and helped pass out brochures, plastic light-up candles, I folded blankets, distributed goodie bags to the audience, and put away chairs. I really enjoyed volunteering on this day because I was also able witness many student presentations such as poetic monologues.

I volunteered with Texas Public Health at a lemonade stand. We sold cookies and lemonade to fundraise money for breast cancer research. Although I was participated for a short period of time, I enjoyed raising money and informing others about breast cancer.

I volunteered in a mock disaster drill. Several students and myself took on roles of injured patients, and the student nurses, paramedics, and social workers were assigned to triage all of us. It was a very intense and enjoyable experience because I gained insight of how serious a natural disaster can impact people. The students taught me that it is important to remain calm in situations like these.
