Helping the young girls with their entrepreneurial plans with Girl Scouts was highly enjoyable. My mentee as well as all of the young ladies are going to do so well!
For the past two years, I have participated in Jumpstart, and every year we complete training sessions to prepare for mentoring young children. These trainings have equipped me with the skills to foster early literacy development and create engaging, educational experiences. This preparation has been essential in ensuring I can effectively support and empower the children I work with.
Over the beginning of summer, I had the privilege of serving as the first point of contact for community partners in an initiative dedicated to uplifting Black communities in the Bay Area. It was inspiring to witness how numerous organizations work in harmony to address critical needs, ranging from maternity care, healthcare, and wellness to youth development, food and agriculture, and arts and culture.
One of the most impactful aspects of this experience was engaging with the Pop-Up Villages of Compass and Keys. These gatherings create an inclusive environment where community members can envision and experience what true connection looks like, feels like, and requires of us. They also serve as a platform to encourage and support small business ownership in innovative, intersectional ways.
Through this initiative, which provides wraparound services to Black residents across the five-county Bay Area, I gained valuable insight into how we can collectively foster environments of empowerment and inclusivity. It was a fulfilling opportunity to serve my community and contribute to its growth and resilience.
