MLK Day of Service - No Sew Blanket Service Project
    MLK Day of Service

    Eden gave to O.L.C.E.

Thr MLK Day pf service was a day to truly be remembered. It was awesome to see so much of the community present and to see so many Aggies lending their helping hands with the service projects. It was amazing to meet everyone and I'm grateful that I was able to capture some of many moments for this event. Can't wait until next year!

    MLK Day of Service
    Holiday Greenery Festival

The Greenery was SO fun to volunteer for! My partner in crime for the day was Ms. Sally. To day she was a joy to work with is an understatement! We were in charge of the exit door, ensuring that all orders were filled accurately and that no one person walked out either missing an item, nor leaving with an item that had not pre-ordered or payed for. The event ended at 5:30, after which I stayed behind to help with event break down, and even helped individual vendors pack their cars.
The remaining items left over from the festival are donated to Ms. Sally for use at the hospice at which she is employed, and through her, they are donated to other community venues helping those in need.. When breakdown concluded, I was fortunate enough to be able to tag along with Ms. Sally to make deliveries to patrons who'd ordered large quantities of wreaths etc, and help her with dropping off donations to other homes and venues to allow them to decorate those facilities for the holidays. We concluded at 7:30pm.
To say this event was rewarding in a total understatement, and I cannot wait for next year!

Lee and Leila's Holiday Food Drive

It is no small feat to start a new foundation. When my fellow aggies and fellow ANL member let us know about her mom's new foundation, it wasn't a question of whether I'd participate or not. She's family in my opinion. The individuals in your organization *should* be able to come to us knowing that we have their backs and that we will come together on their behalf. I am my sister or brothers keeper through and through.
My mom always taught me that if I can lend a helping hand, I should. That's what I live by.
A HUGE congratulations to Lee and Leila, and I'm so very happy to be able to contribute to your first holiday drive! God bless!

Phillips Ave Food Pantry Box - Donate, or Clean & Organize

One of my favorite mantras to live by is "whatever you do, do so in love."

After loading the food boxes with new items, I took time to organize the contents so that everything is visible and reachable, and matched with like items.

One of the other attendees, after I was finished, said "Aww, it's so nice and neat!".
I said "Yes! It's like a mini convenient store in a box! It's supposed to be neat!"

It's a pleasure to assist in this project's longevity. A little extra love, compassion, attention, and attention to detail can never hurt. The little things make it matter just that much more.

Phillips Ave Food Pantry Box - Donate, or Clean & Organize

The more I contribute to this project the more and more intentional I become about the choices I make for adding to the pantry box.
My mom, my sister and I were homeless before and when it comes to these sort of community contributions, you can tell who does it because they care, and those who do donate because they feel like they're doing us a "favor" by giving us throw away items they just didn't want anymore.

Alot of rhe contributions have been throw away items. There were opened pop tars, items with no labels, and so, so many items that aren't edible alone like unseasoned beef broth for marinating meats not actual beef stew, and unhealthy perishable items like cookies.

This time around, I decided to approach my contribution in the mindset of healthy protein packed snacks that can provide good nutrients, energy, and get and keep someone full between big meals; and, provide something that can help make water a bit more enjoyable so that those that need it can have something good to drink plus added vitamin C. For this reason, my contribution was 6 boxes of sugar free drink pack mixes that can easily be added to water without the need for adding sugar, plus 6 bags of assorted nuts and trail mixes for good healthy snacking for our displaced brothers and sisters.

This project is quickly becoming one of my passion places and I am again thankful to GSOYCL for bringing this to life. It's bringing me so much joy and fulfillment. Especially when I'm able to work alongside my fellow aggies to do so!

Phillips Ave Food Pantry Box - Donate, or Clean & Organize

Upon returning home from our if town on November 27, I saw am opportunity to take action and fill a gap in the care of the food pantry boxes located at the library.

Being of greater service to the community isn't always about doing so only when you've "signed" up.

Today we cleaned up broken glass that was found inside and around the pantry boxes as well as cleaning up the contents of an open bag of rice left inside of the box. I also re-organized the pantry box contents for easier finding of what someone may want.

I sincerely love this project and am glad to offer a regular helping hand alongside GYCL.

Volunteering for Greensboro youth leaders was a wonderful experience. I'm very fond of organizing so being able to put my skillset to work for the community was doubly rewarding. Thank you for such a unique opportunity!
