Love getting the chance to volunteer!
Another successful day of fighting food insecurity!
Another successful day of volunteering!
I worked in a different area of the warehouse than I usually do, and I got to experience separating the sorted items into 20-pound boxes.
I'm glad I can continue volunteering at the food bank over the summer!
I helped sort through 8,000 pounds of food! Great experience.
I got the chance to interact with other students in the AUC as well as students in the Jewish community as part of the Black and Jewish Leaders of Tomorrow Program in order to provide 11,407 pounds of food for families in the area. Very impactful!
Last weekend, I volunteered at the Atlanta Community Food Bank. I remember during the discussion on leadership with my peers, we spoke about the differences between a good and a great leader. I think I had the opportunity to demonstrate the qualities of a great leader, which was me being proactive. My role for the day was to take the items out of the boxes the ACFB received, throwing away anything that is not to be sent out to families (like chocolate or recalled items). There are other teams that checked the expiration dates, and passed it on to those who separated the items into difference categories (health and beauty, food, water, etc.). Around the two hour mark, I noticed that the table I was putting items on was getting a little full. There were items stashed to the side because we could not find an expiration date on them, and I wanted to make sure that I could make as much space on the table as possible for the new items I was taking out of the boxes. I took the initiative to find someone else to help us find an expiration date and get those items moved to to large categorized boxes.
