I really enjoyed spending time with the LT100 runners and other volunteers at the Winfield Aid Station. It was cool to be part of such a big race. Unfortunately, some aspects of the race seemed disorganized and confusing. We were told early on that we might run out of water, and we weren't able to offer ice to all volunteers. We didn't have chairs for the first few hours, so volunteers had to offer their own personal chairs for runners to use. By 7 pm, there were about 50 runners who had dropped/DNF'ed at the aid station and they were told they would have to wait several hours for transportation back to Twin Lakes. This was really discouraging to see, as it was getting cold and there was no warm food or drinks for the runners, and no place to take shelter. It was hard to be positive and kind for these people who had just run 50 miles and now had to sit in the grass for hours without layers, warm food, or drink.
