I have always enjoyed working with Books for Africa. It always feels good to give back with something that really influenced me as a child and made me who I am today, books.
I truly enjoyed my time serving at the Atlanta Community Food Bank. The most impactful aspects were the number of families we served and the diverse demographic of families that came for food. We served over 3,100 households in just four hours which is just a fantastic feat. The other aspect of serving at the food bank was the amount of neighbors who only spoke Spanish, Portuguese, or even Russian. I spoke rudimentary Spanish for over half of my service time, and Google Translate helped me with Portuguese and Russian.
Today I organized a lot of math textbooks. It was touching because they were the exact same math textbooks I used during my middle school and high school educational careers. It felt good to be involved in providing that fundamental knowledge to others around the world.
It was a great experience. I felt like I was making a real impact in the world through the work. I was an avid reader as a kid so giving back in that way was so rewarding for me.
