I learned new ways to obtain my hours, as well as learning about groups that I could join in order to help with me mentoring, tutoring and bonding experiences. I also realized there’s so many support groups that could help strengthen me as a person here at PG.
I learned that there will be new additions to the promise scholarship such as you being able to pick something you want to do to add to your hours. I also learned that with fafsa it’s a difference between an academic year and a calendar year
For this activity we did a cultural exchange type of event and in this event we met up with different girl scout troops in the dmv and exchanged different things our troop does but we also helped out different troops with earning their badges. One troop which was troop #2765 and we helped them with their homeless shelter project and we packaged coats.
For this particular activity I was trying to earn my bronze award for the second time and for this assignment me and my partner decided to donate toys to a hospital. How we went about choosing this hospital was it was closest to the nearest woman’s shelter. So we decided to hand out children’s todays but how we started it was we got toys from 5 and below. We also attached notes inside the toys like inspirational quotes
Me and my girl scout members hosted a big thanksgiving drive in order to give back to the community. We had people donate canned goods, turkeys, trays of foods and desserts. We were each assigned to particular stations whether it was passing out food or going away goody bags with different food items inside.Overall this experience taught me to be humble and never take anything you have for granted whether it’s small or big.
For this particular activity we had a mini marathon with different troops and allowed the mini girl scouts to run in the marathon. We invited people from around the neighborhood to participate and along the way there were different stations such as mini water cups and snacks.
I learned that Citizens representatives are heavily active 90 days and is located in Annapolis full time. Citizens representatives don’t work full time. I also learned that there are 102 members of democrats. As far as my reflection this was honestly valuable information because i wasn’t aware of a lot of things pertaining to voting. I also learned more information about the house of delegates.
One thing i really found interesting was that the speaker expressed how important our votes actually are. Of course we understand the importance of voting but I wasn’t that voting in maryland for senates and delegates was as important as it is like voting for the president.
For this Girl Scouts event we were able to go to a local woman’s shelter and feed women who have been in abusive relationships/situations with family and or others. We were able to interview them and get a glimpse as to what happened to them and what led them to a shelter. This type of volunteering was and is heartbreaking just to see how many woman who were in there with their children. It was so sad.
On April 28th, Mrs. Lesane and her husband allowed us to come past her boys and girls club and talk to troubled youth. I graduated in 2022 on honors so it was pretty nice to speak to those who have trouble in school beings though i was always on honor roll. I was able to give them tips and advice to aid them moving forward. We spent the day with them, as well as ate lunch and helped them with their homework
