In this volunteer opportunity, I was able to help create literacy lesson plans for students at Reading Connections; a nonprofit organization that provides classes for those who are learning how to read. There, we cut out lesson plan sheets, learned about what the organization does, and sorted the lesson plans into individual packets for student access.
In this event, SGA tabling at the Red Cross blood donation event aside volunteers and donors in the Cone Ballroom. There, I was able to endorse SGA, enter passing students into a raffle and tell them all about the Student Government Association here at UNCG.
During this event, I helped students in a SNAP workshop sign up for food assistance and informed them of the government food and monetary resources that are available to them. I and 2 other volunteers helped students sign up through an iPad and computer and gave them brochures and verbal help through the process.
In this event, I and other participants volunteered at Guilford Elementary School to help organize a Halloween Trunk or Treat event. There, we decorated our trunks and bought and passed out candy to elementary students in the bus parking lot for 2 hours. The many clubs who helped bring this event together created a fun and inviting atmosphere for not just the children, but those helping out! It was a fun event that I would do again! :)
During this event, I tabled with several other volunteers to encourage students to check if they would be eligible to donate blood stem cells to those in need. We helped them conduct cheek swabs, and prepared their samples to be sent in the mail.
