Today we went outside to the community to host a Yells Lemonade Stand, where we gave free drinks to the community, friends, and families. The students and I had a great time...even though it was a little cold!
Today at YELLS we did lemonade flyers on poster boards.
Today at YELLS, we walked around the community with the kids and giving out flowers and lemonade stand flyers out. We chanted out YELLS saying and I had lots of fun!
Today was my first day at YELLS and I truly loved and enjoyed it! It is such an energetic, fun, safe, and creative space not only for children, but new beginners in the teacher field like me. I played with the kids, got to know them, help them with homework, and observed other volunteers and teacher interact with them. I also was able to see how the teacher/volunteers went along with their classroom management.
Today I worked with the 1st graders. They were are very sweet. During their journaling they were able to write about their paintings the the other volunteer drew for them. They also worked on a writing project for teacher appreciation week. After that worked on some quick math problems that had to do with adding and subtracting with a game of flashcards.
Today students were able to work on a fun project. They had to do let their creative mind think and be able to design a boardgames, a movie, or a fashion clothing. They had lots of fun and so did I being able to help them.
On this day we discussed about how we feel about the summer camp coming up. All the students are super excited about going to La Amistad summer camp. Besides this, we also worked on better our math by doing long word math problems that had to do with addition and multiplication.
Today we got to play games that had to do with multiplication and division to help the students study their math. After that we did a math packet to help students be able to add with 6 digit numbers. We also had lots of fun playing outside, since we left just a couple of minutes before La Amistad was over.
Today we practiced some long division and multiplication with flashcards and doing some problems on the boards. After that students were able to take their practice math test under a 5 minute timer. My students did very good but we encourage then to at least gets 60 questions and higher.
