After School Program Support - Franklin Gateway

I really enjoyed this day, it was the egg hunt! The children, volunteers and Teachers walked won to the big field and did a handful of activities , one being the egg hunt which the kids seems to enjoyed a lot. Then they played in the park and ate snack for the remainders of Friday! I am so thankful to have been part of Yells and hopeful I will get to return.

I arrived right as the children began circle time and I decided to go to Pod 2 as that has been my group for the entire past times, the children in that pod recognize me that most. The activity in leadership was very nice, we did a food coloring water/ rose, to it to show growth. The children correlated a color to a postive word, so the children will get to see how that postive word (color) will impact the whole rose (by making it change colors). After that, Pod 2 Switched to homework and rec.

This day was very similar, the only difference was since their event for their food sale has ended the week before spring break, leadership returned back to their regular lessons. This week was about positivity and how it impacts the children. I got to assist during the ballon and stars activity and after that we moved on to homework as usually. Lastly We did any activity with rec and we ended the afternoon during dismissal playing freeze tag.

This day has to be one of my favorite days! I was so excited to go in, because it was going to be my first FULL day at YELLS, from start to finish. The last prior days I had to arrive after 5 since I have class around the time YELLS started, but my class was canceled for this week. I go to see what the children do before homework or leadership. The first arrived and I got to greet them when they walked, they have their snack and play outside. Then they have circle time, which has to be my favorite part. There was kid who’s birthday was the past week and they all go to sing him happy birthday, what made it special was that the children sung it in both English and Spanish, that moment was very memorable.

This day was similar to the other, I came in and joined to help with what the children needed to do. I joined pod 2 and the environment was very exciting as they had just came back in from outside time. I got to talked to more of the volunteers there and the other Pod Leaders.

As I began to go in for more day, I began to feel more and more comfortable in the YELLS environment. I always get greeted by all the children. This day there were finishing up their proposal for their food catering event the children were planning, I also helped with cutting out paper for the event and setting up menus for the parents. This day was a very laid back day.

This was my second day at YELLS and just like the first it was welcoming, the majority of the kids remembered me and it felt nice that they did. I arrived at soon as leadership started and the kids were working on their Menu for a sale that was occurring in the next following week. I assisted them with creating menu posters and after that we moved onto homework.

The very first day everyone was extremely inviting, especially the children. They were so eager to know who I was and what I was there to do. I joined pod 2 and assisted them for the routine of the day. I had to jump into the activities, since I arrived there at 5:15 but it was very easy to do so.
