Brea McGinnis

I worked with a World of Stem to help middle schools make catapults using cardboard, rubber bands, and pencils. We walked them step by step teaching them about lab safety and jobs available in stem. These catapults helped us teach the middle schoolers about potential and kinetic energy and they had a great time testing their catapults at the end.

During Open House at North Carolina A&T, I had the opportunity to speak with prospective students about my major, Chemical Engineering, and share my experiences as a student at A&T. I discussed what I enjoy about my major, some of the challenges and opportunities I have experienced, and how being involved in campus organizations and leadership opportunities has contributed to my college experience. I enjoyed being able to answer questions, offer advice, and give prospective students a better understanding of what they can expect as future Aggies. It was a great opportunity to represent the College of Engineering and share my perspective with students who are considering attending NCAT.

I assisted a World of Stem in teaching kids about density. We did this by giving the students different materials like dish soap, corn syrup, water, and more. They had to put all their liquids in their cups and then we gave them sponges, bouncy balls, and beads so they could drop them in their cup and see what layer it gets stuck in. They learned density by seeing what materials mixed together and by seeing what objects floated or sunk.

I donated $10 to help fund a food drive. The food will be used to help those in need.

A World of Stem was given a hallway to decorate for the haunted house on campus. I assisted by making spooky signs and hanging up decorations.
