End of Semester Spring 2026 (mandatory meeting)

During the meeting we reviewed the academic requirements to stay in the program. We also reviewed the engagement you need in the program. The required hours and mini sessions are only for the Fall and Spring semesters. Events are to be ONLY sponsored by PGCC. Financial Aid is granted based on how fast you sign up. There is a deadline for registration, so you should meet with your academic advisor and follow your degree path. We were given a quiz to answer during the meeting. You do not need to be full time and have 30 credits if you are close to graduating or your program is exempt from this. Late registration does NOT mean you have coverage for summer classes. Even when you aren’t taking classes, you should be checking your student email. At the end we were able to ask any questions we had.

During the meeting I learned that one of the first things you should think about after getting your degree is to think about where you see yourself in 2 years. There are places that can help you find the answers you have about the career you want or have. There is a website that helps people find colleges based on location and the kind of degree they want. Dr. Wilkins talked about the process people should go through before they jump into the work force. You’re social media accounts should look clean and professional when looking for a job. When preparing for an interview you should do a mock interview with someone. At the end we were able to ask questions and fill out a survey.

During the meeting Ms. Jackson-Warren gave a list of desired Soft Skills. She played a few videos and followed up with questions to see if we understood how these skills help people get a job. The first video showed the difference of how you dress and act during an interview and how it can affect a job. Professionalism should be used in every aspect when it comes to job interviews and working. Each video gave examples of something that you shouldn’t do and ended off with what should be done. It was recommended to make a linkedin profile to help with networking and having more job opportunities.

There were multiple representatives from different companies and fields. During the meeting you could enter different breakout rooms to hear about the company and what they offer. Even though I am a Culinary Arts major I think it was nice to hear about businesses that revolved around other majors and how they work. Overall I think the career fair was a great experience to not just look for a job in your field but to learn about careers outside of your experience and field.
