I arrived near the volunteering station at 8:15 AM MT. This was my first time attending the Life Time Leadville Trail Marathon & Heavy Half event. I met the group of Finish Line Chute - Awards + Aid station volunteers before my shift started at 8:30 AM MT. I helped set up the tables and canopy tents, took the medals out of the boxes, and hung them on the rack with other volunteers. I filled up the beverage cooler with water and Skratch. I let the medical staff and runners near me know which Skratch beverage cooler was caffeine-free and which one was caffeinated. I filled small cups with M&M’s. I took some of the empty boxes to the recycling dumpster. For a time, I monitored the traffic entering and exiting the finish line area. I cheered on the runners. I receive a volunteering shirt. I gave out medals with mugs to the finishers. I helped clean up and take down the canopy tents and the food and drink stations near the finish line.It was a fun experience overall.
