My time volunteering at the university farm was a meaningful experience that gave me a new appreciation for the work that goes into growing and maintaining plants. I became aware of how much patience and care are needed to maintain a farm's health and productivity as we removed weeds and gathered okra. It was rewarding to contribute to that effort and see firsthand the importance of working together to accomplish a common goal. Tasting the fresh hibiscus tea was one of my favorite aspects of the trip. It was refreshing and reminded me of how farms can supply more than just food - they can also create opportunities to learn about different plants and their purposes. Making a bouquet to take home was something else I enjoyed doing. Creating something beautiful from the farm made me feel more connected to the environment and the work we had done throughout the day. Overall, this experience inspired me to take my time and enjoy nature in a manner that I do not frequently get to in my everyday life. It reminded me that even small efforts, such as pulling weeds or harvesting crops, play an important role in supporting a healthy and sustainable environment.
