Awesome, as always. My daughter and I really enjoy helping the runners. As an endurance athlete myself, I understand 100% how great it is to have someone help you when you are exhausted and feeling miserable! After our shift, we went to Twin Lakes to see if they needed more help. They did (2-3 more volunteers at that station would have really helped)! Twin Lakes Aid Station gets SLAMMED at about 8-8:30 every year. An extra stove and LOTS of bouillon, potatoes (we ran out this year), and Ramen would help as these are the three foods that the racers ask for the most and they require lots and lots of hot water. (Oh, and they also ask for coffee and hot chocolate but we couldn't provide it because we had to use all the pots and burners for soup and bouillon.) And Ginger Ale, we ran out of that, too!
An amazing experience all around. In addition to working my scheduled shift, I was also asked to pick up and bring two oxygen tanks up to Hope Pass the morning of. They were heavy but I was glad I could help! I've participated as an athlete in many Leadville Race Series events so it was really cool (and rewarding) to see the event from this perspective. The other volunteers were so amazing, helpful and kind. Will absolutely volunteer at another event on down the road. Oh...and LAMAS!
It was inspirational and motivating to watch the runners. It was my pleasure to help.
I’m so grateful I was able to volunteer at Hope, it was super inspiring and SO MUCH fun!
