Volunteering at the Austin Parks Foundation was a whole new experience in community service for me. It was very informative and I definitely feel like I left the service with much more knowledge on how to serve my community. I did not know of the issues that were taught during the service. I definitely recommend this opportunity to others.
I learned a significant amount about how to collect, store, and filter rainwater for both myself & the environment. We learned about creation of rain gardens, along with water tank storage & viewed the exterior of the building and made recommendations for implementing these tactics on the property to reduce pollution of the nearby creek.
I really enjoyed seeing how their irrigation techniques could be applied to the surrounding yard.
I enjoyed the information but the lecture was a little long (most of the Saturday-morning-after-partying-Friday-night college students were snoozing through much of it). I liked the considerations for what can be done in both commercial and residential settings. Cost is a big factor to many of us so it might help to have a layout of "You can do these things for <$100 ...", "For $100-$500, you can do this...", "For $500-$1000 you can do this...", etc.
Learned about the environment
