Information sent about volunteering was erroneous. We showed up at the warehouse on 201 Harrison but our captain was not there. We waited until 8:20AM and as a group decided to go up to the Stumptown aid station anyway. When we showed up at the aid station the actual aid station Captain (Ethan) said the information we had was wrong. We still were able to volunteer the full time.
Great crew. It was awesome. We had the best aid station. Haha.
Venir really needs to be well stocked with sunblock. We went the 3 bottles of volunteer sunblock because we were only given 1/2 a bottle of sunblock to start. Also, some type of electrolyte tabs would have been very useful. Most of the runners need electrolytes, sunblock, and some real type of food like fruit (watermelon with salt, or at least some bananas) after that first major climb. They get to us and haven’t been fueling/ hydrating well because of the climb and elevation and need more help than we could give them this year.
AS was much better stocked than last yr. Running out of water was the only bad thing but Kale radioed Stumptown to be sure the athletes were well stocked with hydration prior to getting to Venir on inbound. It was hot so maybe 2 containers of water are not enough for a hot day. Water did arrive when most of the athletes were returning so it kind of worked out.
Thanks for the 1st aid kit. It was needed.
Also, ran out of sun screen, maybe 2-3 bottles?
Bug spray wasn't needed as much as previous years as the wind was strong enough to keep them down but I appreciated having it as standing around when they are present isn't fun.
Awesome crew and so happy to give back. I’ll be volunteering again soon!
Aid station ran really well. Loved all the recycling. Darrin was great
