This 3-11A shift is at a goofy time, but the action that takes place in the 23-25 hour window is pretty amazing. I got overwhelmed by the crowds and people using runner-specific resources as their own. Maybe it’s small-town vibes, maybe I need to be more chill. I enjoy serving the runners and cheering them as they crush the finish!
A bit overstaffed at the finish line but overall a good station set up and offerings
A lot of racers were asking for coffee at the end and we didn't have any. It seems they wanted hot chocolate, coffee, ramen and broth much more than Scratch that they were drinking all race long at the finish line. Soda came at a moderate request but may have been better used on course
I went to the retail store on the morning of my shift because I had no instructions at all. When I arrived, only the Winfield drop bags had made it back and runners arriving to pick up all their drop bags were not very happy. Eventually, Tamira arrived and she and I devised a plan and within an hour, all the remaining drop bags from the remaining Aid Stations were back at HQ. There were supposed to be 3 of us volunteering for the Half-Pipe drop bag return. With a single pin drop, I went out to Half-Pipe and retrieved all of the DBs and returned them to HQ myself. I humbly request to receive the hours from the other two volunteers that never arrived (no-shows). Instead of 4 hours, I believe that I should receive 12 hours because I did the work of 3 people and took the initiative to go to HQ on Sunday morning. I easily could have not arrived for my shift bc no one ever communicated with me prior to my arrival at HQ. If Tamiria needs assistance with rounding up Team Captains/volunteers, I have ideas and could be the Captain for that.
I had multiple shifts for Leadville so its would get redundant but it was a great shift. A fun one really - got to talk with families who had someone in the race while keeping traffic flowing away from the finish line. Never met a single negative person. Race director was clear about what to do, desires. Recommend shift to other volunteers.
Volunteers and staff where very nice. Organized. Runners were all happy to have their items returned and the extra help finding their personal bags.
