I volunteered at Twin Lakes two years ago, raced last year and fell short of the 12 hour mark and volunteered at the starting corral and Carter Summit aid station for both first and second shifts. Mike was an awesome crew lead, all the others including the medical staff were awesome and fun to work with.
I enjoyed meeting, working and interacting with the Leadville 100 staff other volunteers and the racers during each of my assignments. It's an exciting event with lots of anticipation through to the finish and the awards ceremony.
We had a blast seeing everyone and cheering them on to the finish. We even had a racer come back through to tell us he got his buckle! I am still a bit horse from yelling to every rider that came through. I can't wait to come back as a racer and as a volunteer! Thanks for everything.
I started my day at Corral Help, then Carter Summit 1st shift, and continued in to this 2nd shift at Carter Summit. We had a lot of downtime after the outbound racers came through. But, once the racers started coming inbound, we had a LONG day of helping so many racers through. It was a long and hard effort, but extra rewarding when you realize that you're the last support many of them see before the Finish Line.
I went to Carter Summit after working the Start Corrals. I was able to get to the aid station in time to see the racers come through. Not many people stop at Carter Summit outbound, but we did offer assistance to the few that did. Overall, this was a pretty "easy" assignment. Captain Mike was awesome BTW!
