Being at the Start Corrals at 4am is tough. Thanks for the complimentary coffee, BTW. But, being a 2-time racer, I was able to bring experience to the job: encouraging everyone to get the nervous jitters out of the way early as I didn't want to have to pull unattended bikes as the start time approached. Most racers obliged, but unfortunately, I had to pull 3. After we pulled the Corral tape, I was able to watch the roll-out from the grandstands. That is an awesome sight to see!
If I could give ten stars, I would!
Motivating those riders on the bubble to continue on. One stands out among all the others. Type I rider - I noticed the monitor on the back of his right arm. I told him he wasn't going to get a buckle, but a finishing metal was a go and he would be back next year. I told him he had to check his numbers again and talk with the medical staff to proceed. He did and five/ten minutes later he remounted and I said: DIG DEEP! AND HE DIG DEEP!
I didn't race every year, but I go back 20 years with Merilee & Ken and continue to support their Leadville Foundation. LT100 got into my DNA. While they have taken a back seat, I'm pleased their successor have expand and continue the LT100 tradition.

Great group of volunteers. I now have some new friends. I added a couple of hours for the day before loading at the warehouse. Also walked down from Columbine picking up trash with several other volunteers.
We had a highly energetic group and we did everything we could to get the racers taken care of in a team effort and in a fun and jovial way!!!
