I had a good time on my shift these past two weeks. It is getting easier to identify physicians and patient families and the transition has been smoother. I have memorized numbers to SS procedural and PACU, and this helps when patient family members have questions and I am doing multiple tasks. Overall, I am doing well at the desk by myself.
I had a great time at the hospital. It was not too busy and the protective screen being gone made it easier to hear and interact with patient families.
I completed 50 voting cards for Reclaim Your Vote to spread the word for the November 8 election and shine a light on voter suppression and encourage people to vote.
I had a great time at the desk these last two weeks. We got rid of the CoVID barrier, and although I was hesitant at first, it is good to see that things are slowly returning to normal. I also went to pre-op for the first time and that was exciting, because now I can escort family members to other places with minimal assistance.
These past two weeks were hectic at the Surgical Desk. We had eleven pages of procedures and it was getting a little overwhelming with working with my partner. The desk is fast moving and I am still training her, so I had to prioritize tasks in a different way. We made it work in the end and I learned how to request another copy of the surgical schedules at the OR desk. Although there were a few hiccups, we found our rhythm and got through the shift efficiently.
Last week, I assisted Cindy with training our new volunteer Laurie. I taught her how to read the status board, assist family members to short stay and how to contact family members in the waiting room to speak with the physicians.
This week, I worked at the desk by myself and it was hectic because both phones were ringing and it was a seven page surgical day. I located patient families, assisted PACU, surgical short stay and IR. I also received information about our new system of updating family arm bands with room numbers
Today. I assisted patient families in a number of new and unique ways including, retrieving patient belongings from short stay, assisting patient family members to pre-op and 2-Heart, and learning about new ways to get to radiology and Internal and Family Medicine.
I was assisted at the SID with a new teen volunteer, I showed her where to send patients who need a consult, the PACU, and short stay. I also learned where the surgical cards are located when I run out.
