Second week at the desk by myself, I helped the teen volunteer, andrea with learning the desk, signing in patients, answering phones and understanding how to read EPIC and the status board.
Today I was at the Surgical Info Desk by myself. It was very fun and interesting to maneuver around without someone assisting me. It helped me to feel comfortable in the setting.
I took the lead at the desk, answered phones, put patient families into consult rooms and led patient families to respective rooms.
Took the lead today in my training, ran families to the PACU and consult rooms, and updated the schedule in regrds to add ons, ENDO patients, cancellations etc.
Today was my third week at the desk and I am making progress. I updated the status board list, answered phones, checked in, called and found patients and directed people to various parts of the hospital.
On the second day of training, it was more independent. I received my EPIC access and was able to help family members on my own with supervision. I l guided family members to consult rooms, short stay, and the PACU to be with patients. I also answered phone calls and conducted phone calls to families and various desks in the hospital.
I had a great time packing the bags, it felt good to be in the room with like minded individuals who wanted to come out and donate their time for others. The day was filled with laughter and service and brought me joy to be on the line.
