    Agape Youth & Family Center

I greatly enjoyed my time serving with Agape Youth and Family Center. Today, I assisted the kids with subtraction, addition, and division problems they were given via a worksheet. In a competition-style format, I would solve the same problem as them to see if we both would come out with the same end result.

I had an enriching experience serving at Agape Youth and Family Center. Today, I completed my usual duties of assisting the students with their homework. On this day in particular, I assisted the students with their math homework, which consisted of division and multiplication problems. After homework hour, I accompanied the class to their STEAM activity. The students were exposed to Georgia's expansive wildlife and different geographical regions in this activity. They were tasked with completing a worksheet about animals that the Fernbank volunteer supplied for the lesson. One of the animals was a tiger salamander. Overall, this experience was extremely wholesome and I greatly enjoyed my time!

    Raising Expectations

I really enjoyed my experience volunteering with Raising Expectations. Today, I assisted the students with a STEAM activity in which the students were tasked with creating paper airplanes from different paper materials. Students were given construction paper, cardstock, and machine paper to create airplanes and then were allowed to test their individual models in a competition-style format. After that portion of the lesson, the students were given a "Homework Help" hour and in the final hour of the lesson played a Jeaprody style "Math Skills" game.

I greatly enjoyed my experience volunteering at Agape Youth and Family Center. Today, I assisted third-grade students with reading, grammar, and spelling. I began by assisting students with timed reading. Once the time was up, the students were then tasked with writing a summary of the reading that they were assigned. In six to eight sentences, the students wrote down summaries of their reading and occasionally asked me for help with spelling and grammatical concerns. In the last hour of my volunteering, I assisted students with an assignment that tasked them with identifying ways that pollution impacts people, animals, ecosystems, and the environment.

    Raising Expectations

I greatly enjoyed my experience serving with Raising Expectations. Today, I assisted Ms. Ki's class with creating an engineering model. In this lesson, the students were tasked with creating a "gripper" out of paper and then using their "gripper" to grab and stack paper cups. This lesson was meant to expose students to engineering and potentially inspire them to pursue a career in engineering or other STEM-related fields. After completion of the activity, students then were tasked with completing timed math and English drills. I assisted the students with the grammar drills, and then graded their timed math drills. Finally, I recorded the quarter grades for three students on paper, at the request of Ms. Ki.

I enjoyed my time serving as a volunteer at Agape Youth and Family today. During this session, I assisted the students with their math homework, which dealt with the differences between prime and composition numbers. I also assisted another student with a multiplication worksheet. Upon completion of the worksheet, I accompanied the teacher and the students to their enrichment time, in which they played kickball with other classes.

I highly enjoyed my experience today, serving as a volunteer at Raising Expectations. Today, I assisted students in completing timed math drills, in which their multiplication skills were tested. Upon completion of the timed math drills, students were then given a grammar activity, in which they learned the differences between complete and incomplete sentences. I assisted students with the accompanying exercise, in which they were tasked with editing incomplete sentences. As a culminating activity, I helped students finish their "Student Led Academic Plan" or "SLAP" worksheets in which students answered questions on their past and president academic success, as well as their future academic and career goals.
