Last week, I attended a workshop at school that focused on listening skills—both with ourselves and with others. Mr. Ross and Ms. Latasha led the event, sharing insights about therapy, self-awareness, and the importance of truly paying attention. We also took part in interactive activities that made the session engaging and practical. I went with my friends, which made it more enjoyable, but I also found the experience very introspective. In addition, I learned about the different mental health resources available at school, which I found helpful and reassuring. Overall, the workshop encouraged me to reflect on how I listen to others and myself, while also reminding me of the support systems I can turn to when needed.
An important saying I remember was “ don’t be afraid to ask for help.”
Yesterday, I attended the Garden Club on campus. I had the chance to learn about different plants and how to properly care for them. We watered the garden and spent time making sure everything was healthy and growing well. I especially enjoyed learning about the vegetables, like the tomatoes. The tomatoes we picked will be shared with the school’s market. While I was working in the garden, I understood what my professor meant when she said the garden was peaceful and therapeutic. The event really helped me feel calm and refreshed. Overall, the event was not only educational but also relaxing. I appreciated the opportunity to help out on campus.
The end-of-spring semester scholarship meeting was informative. I appreciate the program coordinators for taking time to explain new requirements, giving feedback, answering my questions, and motivating me. They took the time to clearly explain these changes and answer questions, which helped me feel more prepared moving forward.
The workshop also provided helpful tips on how to better format my experience and make my skills more visible and relevant. One of the most valuable things I learned was how artificial intelligence is now playing a major role in the hiring process. I hadn’t realized how much applicant tracking systems (ATS) filter resumes before they even reach a human recruiter. This made me more aware of how important formatting, keywords, and structure are when creating a resume that stands out. I plan on editing my resume today using what I learned. I feel more confident in making it not only more appealing to potential employers, but also more compatible with the technology they use. I’m glad I attended.
